Virtual Fencing: Freedom From Fences

Dr Edward Bork

Dr. Edward Bork is the Director of the Rangeland Research Institute at the University of Alberta, where he leads a diverse research program focused on the long-term sustainability of rangeland plant communities and ecosystems. He holds a Ph.D. from Utah State University and brings both academic expertise and practical experience to his work—managing a mixed farming operation northeast of Edmonton.

Dr. Bork’s passion lies in conserving rangeland ecosystems while offering producers practical, science-based solutions. His research bridges innovation and application, helping ranchers adopt new technologies that improve both land stewardship and operational efficiency.

In his session, Virtual Fencing – Freedom From Fences, Dr. Bork will explore how virtual fencing is transforming livestock management. Learn how this cutting-edge technology can reduce labor costs, increase grazing flexibility, and enhance both animal welfare and environmental outcomes. Discover how remote control of grazing boundaries enables efficient rotational grazing and protects sensitive areas—giving ranchers more control, more insight, and more peace of mind.
