About the Session:
Dr. Ed Bork will share new research on the effects of thermal (heat and cold) stress on cattle habitat selection and activity. Cattle naturally seek different parts of the landscape as temperatures change, and producers can use that knowledge to make smarter grazing and pasture-management decisions.
Learn how maintaining the right mix of grasslands and wooded areas can support cattle performance, protect valuable pasture resources, and ultimately contribute to a more productive and profitable operation.
Speaker Bio
Dr. Edward Bork is the Mattheis Chair in Rangeland Ecology and Management and serves as Director of the Rangeland Research Institute at the University of Alberta. Since 1991, he has taught and conducted research on topics including grazing systems, forage and legume production, fire ecology, integrated weed control, landscape ecology, and the role of grasslands in providing environmental goods and services such as carbon storage.
His work focuses on addressing practical challenges facing producers and public land managers. Through extensive collaboration with researchers, agencies, and industry partners, Dr. Bork has helped advance applied solutions that improve rangeland management and livestock production. He and his graduate students have delivered numerous research and extension presentations across the agriculture sector.
Dr. Bork and his family continue to reside on and operate a mixed farm in the Aspen Parkland region of central Alberta.
